The Traditional Crown Timeline
Traditional crowns require at least two visits to the dentist. However, there is also some down time between those visits. The first visit entails preparing the damaged tooth by filing it down and taking an impression of your mouth in order to make a mold. Then you have to wait about two weeks for the crown to be designed in a lab somewhere else. During this time, you will have to wear a temporary crown. Finally, your new crown will be ready and it can be fitted over the prepared tooth.
What are CEREC One-Day Crowns?
CEREC crowns are made right in the dental office in an on-site lab. In essence, the crown is made “while you wait”. At Yuma Smiles, CEREC One-Day Crowns can be ready in about two hours. We use advanced technology and digital imagery in order to speed up the process. After the tooth is prepared and shaped, a digital picture will be taken of your mouth, which is then used to create the crown. Once the crown is formed, it is polished and adjusted to make sure it is the correct size, shape, color, and fit. The crown is then fitted over the prepared tooth and cemented in place.
5 Benefits of CEREC One-Day Crowns
1. You will have a crown in one day.
This is the most obvious benefit and one of the most important reasons CEREC One-Day Crowns are chosen. You no longer have to wait weeks to get your crown.
2. One-Day Crowns are made with a precision design.
The minute the image of your mouth is taken, the dentist gets to work designing your crown. CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing) software takes the image and creates a precise replica in a very short time. After that, it is only a matter of milling, polishing, and final shaping to prepare the crown.
3. No need for a temporary crown.
If you get a traditional crown, you will probably have to wear a temporary one to protect the tooth. Since they must be removed, temporary crowns cannot be cemented in place. As a consequence, they may not fit as well, and can even become loose and fall out.
4. No pink putty in your mouth.
Dental molds are usually made by putting a soft, pink, putty in your mouth. You bite down on the putty to make the impression. CEREC One-Day Crowns require no putty. The image of your teeth is taken with a small, hand-held digital device.
5. One-Day Crowns are comfortable and durable
CEREC One-Day Crowns fit comfortably and snugly over your tooth so it will not move or loosen. It can last for years, leaving you with a natural, beautiful smile that you are proud to show off.
